Hey again, RedDwarfIV here.
Had three college taster days, they went well. Currently on Study Leave and waiting for my GCSE results. Meanwhile, I'm at home, juggling my time between forums, TV, Kerbal Space Program and RankAmateur. I'm still working on this, and yes, I'm still building that buffer. Sorry about the heavy launch delays, but with improvement in my art the old sketches I had finished are no longer good enough to be put up. So I'm going to be redoing them. That will take some time.
RankAmateur now has a TVTropes page here:
Hey, RedDwarfIV here.
Ok, so coming up in a few days is the first of my GCSE exams. Clearly, and I hope you will all understand, I have to focus more on revision than on my webcomic. Happily, however, after the exams, there will be the rest of study leave [or as my RE teacher put it 'the longest summer holiday you will ever have"] to work on it.
I confess that recently I have been working much more on art improvement than on the comic. Of course, that will delay the comic release, but surely that's a price worth paying for a better quality comic? Anyway, you should see some of the things I've been doing. I did a fan art for TwoKinds character Katherine. It's called 'Nya Kat', and you can probably guess the reference without even following this link: http://i.imgur.com/3BIxr.png
Of course, school breakup means I don't get to chat properly with the friends who helped me work out a lot of the finer details, gave me some pretty good jokes to work with, and who have generally been awesome people. But I do have the eMail of one of them who has helped the most. If you are interested in fantasy and board games, then his Forsaken Games production Templars Of Kayne could be just your thing. It'll be on sale from http://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/templars-of-kayne sometime soon, once it has passed final prototype stages.
Hey. RedDwarfIV here.
I haven't given up on the webcomic - but I have noticed that I'm spending a lot of time playing Kerbal Space Program when I would be working on the comic. I'll be doing what I can about this. Ok, not long now until Study Leave, and there will be a lot less time for working on the webcomic, but I've almost finished the buffer. Only a few more sketches to do - and some to redo - and then I can start putting the sketches up properly. I made a .gif for everyone to look at while you wait - though I wouldn't suggest keeping it up there for too long.
After having a moral crisis, I decided there would be no intentional references or mentions of TV show My Little Pony in the webcomic. I was going to have some jokes based on making fun of it. That won't be happening, since I don't want to insult readers or put myself in a morally questionable position. I can't be a nice person if I discriminate against people for watching a TV show, can I? Incidentally, the Ferosi Bomb [you'll see it in the story] detonates twice, creating two explosions, one after the other. I'm told by a friend of mine that something similar happened in MLP. I'm filing this under 'unintentional reference'.
Of note is the evolution of my artwork. As of a few days ago, I redesigned Felix. He looks a lot more like a proper cat anthro now, wheras before there were too many flaws to list. I've also worked on proportions, head design, the shape of facial features, drawing sets, and of course, Felix's sunglasses. You can see the new design for Felix on his Ident Card in the 'Characters' section of the site. The Haikovans also look different, but not nearly so much. I'm using Paint.NET's Gradient tool a lot more - it works well for making surfaces look more 3D, which is useful for external shots of the Kizantikiran.
Hey, RedDwarfIV here.
Had a few problems over the last week. First off, IT coursework. Final deadline for hand-in was today, so I was working on that in the evenings from wednesday to friday last week. Then on Saturday, I find that I have to help my Dad move everything out of my grandparents' loft since they're moving house soon. Spent all day there. It wasn't a problem for me, but it did mean I got no work done that day. Then on Sunday, the whole family goes to visit my grandparents, so once again, no work. Today, however, I hope to get Sketch 9 done and scanned in, maybe even coloured.
On the bright side, I did make character IDs for Renaza, Tesanaza, Felix and Prof. Teal. You can see then in the Characters page, tab at the top next to 'Blog'.I'll be adding more as I get face-frontal drawings to work with. I am going into the last few weeks of Secondary School now, so it is going to be stressful, and work will be less efficient. Yes, it will put off the first sketch's release. However, once the first sketch is released, there should be no problems in keeping to schedule. If there are, I'll let you know in as much advance as I can. Sketches will be set to auto-release on the schedule, so forced hiatuses shouldn't be a problem for you, until the end of the Series.
I should also specify that a Series is 10 Chapters, and Chapters are 20 sketches [Plus cover and intro]. There will likely be a fortnight to a month of hiatus between Series, for me to rebuild the buffer if nescersary. If it isn't nescersary, then there shouldn't be a hiatus. Just to let you know what the plan is. There should not be hiatuses between Chapters.
Hey, RedDwarfIV here.
Ok, still in the process of building up that buffer. Two weeks in, and here's a list of what i've done.
Chapter cover, Intro page, Sketch 1, Sketch 2, Sketch 3, Sketch 4, Sketch 5, Sketch 6 [in progress], some character design drawings for Felix, and a heck of a lot of work on the storyline.
Series 1, as its called, will be made up of ten chapters [New Mission to Endgame], with each chapter having a cover, an introduction courtesy of Dark Felix, and twenty sketches. Jokes and storyline sketches are mixed, and the number of each will vary between chapters, depending on what funny things I can take on board for inspiration, and how fast I want to make the plot go.
I plan to release sketches on Mondays and Fridays as a semi-weekly. This is may be my first web-comic, but I'm determined not to go on hiatus, since when I lose motivation I tend to lose it for some time. If I do have to, well, I'll still be working on art as much as possible, and my buffer of twenty sketches should easily cover any holidays without paper to nick from my printer.
So far as I can tell, Series 1 will cover this site for two years. Two weeks ago, a friend of mine told me 'I give you a year'. Seriously, I think this can work.
