Hey, RedDwarfIV here.
As we can see the world has not ended. NASA has some amusing quips about why there could be no planets set to collide with us for solar flares to burn us. Oh, and my laptop is fixed, following some helpful advice from those cheerful guys over on the Kerbal Space Program forum. Christmas approaches, and so, therefore, does money toward that tablet PC that will lift this slumbering webcomic from it's hiatus and throw it against a wall to wake it up, before proceeding to repeatedly bash it about the head with a traffic cone to keep it from going back to sleep. Oh, and I did a drawing of Teal threatening Ian and Anthony from Smosh with a Furryiser Mk2 cannon which I'm going to send to them as soon as I can locate their most recent address in all their YouTube videos.
Well, merry X-mas and a happy new year to you all.
Hey, RedDwarfIV here.
Summer holidays are heading towards their end, and I've recieved my GCSE results, which I'm happy with. I made the requirements to get into college - interestingly, that's a three day a week thing, so a lot of time to be doing art in. But more to the point - my current way of doing the art takes absolutely ages to get done, and my attention span is short. For weeks I've been doing one-offs, improving my art skills - which is important, because at least now I get proportions mostly right. But it does mean I haven't been adding anything to the comic buffer. Which is where the awesomeness of my good grades saves the day - my dad has agreed to get me an art tablet, which will allow me to skip the paper planning, paper drawing, scanning and lineart-tracing stages that take so long and just do the planning, lineart, colouring and shading. That should cut the time needed to produce strips down to something my attention span can handle.
Also, driving lessons when 17 in under a month. Heck yes.
Hey again, RedDwarfIV here.
Had three college taster days, they went well. Currently on Study Leave and waiting for my GCSE results. Meanwhile, I'm at home, juggling my time between forums, TV, Kerbal Space Program and RankAmateur. I'm still working on this, and yes, I'm still building that buffer. Sorry about the heavy launch delays, but with improvement in my art the old sketches I had finished are no longer good enough to be put up. So I'm going to be redoing them. That will take some time.
RankAmateur now has a TVTropes page here:
Hey, RedDwarfIV here.
Ok, so coming up in a few days is the first of my GCSE exams. Clearly, and I hope you will all understand, I have to focus more on revision than on my webcomic. Happily, however, after the exams, there will be the rest of study leave [or as my RE teacher put it 'the longest summer holiday you will ever have"] to work on it.
I confess that recently I have been working much more on art improvement than on the comic. Of course, that will delay the comic release, but surely that's a price worth paying for a better quality comic? Anyway, you should see some of the things I've been doing. I did a fan art for TwoKinds character Katherine. It's called 'Nya Kat', and you can probably guess the reference without even following this link: http://i.imgur.com/3BIxr.png
Of course, school breakup means I don't get to chat properly with the friends who helped me work out a lot of the finer details, gave me some pretty good jokes to work with, and who have generally been awesome people. But I do have the eMail of one of them who has helped the most. If you are interested in fantasy and board games, then his Forsaken Games production Templars Of Kayne could be just your thing. It'll be on sale from http://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/templars-of-kayne sometime soon, once it has passed final prototype stages.
Hey. RedDwarfIV here.
I haven't given up on the webcomic - but I have noticed that I'm spending a lot of time playing Kerbal Space Program when I would be working on the comic. I'll be doing what I can about this. Ok, not long now until Study Leave, and there will be a lot less time for working on the webcomic, but I've almost finished the buffer. Only a few more sketches to do - and some to redo - and then I can start putting the sketches up properly. I made a .gif for everyone to look at while you wait - though I wouldn't suggest keeping it up there for too long.
After having a moral crisis, I decided there would be no intentional references or mentions of TV show My Little Pony in the webcomic. I was going to have some jokes based on making fun of it. That won't be happening, since I don't want to insult readers or put myself in a morally questionable position. I can't be a nice person if I discriminate against people for watching a TV show, can I? Incidentally, the Ferosi Bomb [you'll see it in the story] detonates twice, creating two explosions, one after the other. I'm told by a friend of mine that something similar happened in MLP. I'm filing this under 'unintentional reference'.
Of note is the evolution of my artwork. As of a few days ago, I redesigned Felix. He looks a lot more like a proper cat anthro now, wheras before there were too many flaws to list. I've also worked on proportions, head design, the shape of facial features, drawing sets, and of course, Felix's sunglasses. You can see the new design for Felix on his Ident Card in the 'Characters' section of the site. The Haikovans also look different, but not nearly so much. I'm using Paint.NET's Gradient tool a lot more - it works well for making surfaces look more 3D, which is useful for external shots of the Kizantikiran.
